Aid to the Ukrainian refugees and communities in Transcarpathia
Our second shipment of food aid has been delivered to ethnic Hungarian communities in Transcarpathia who are not only in need of supplies themselves but also helping thousands of Ukrainian refugees from the Eastern side of the country. Part of the food supplies benefitted an orphanage of 80 children including those who lost their parents in the war. To date, a staggering seven million people were internally displaced in Ukraine, about five million have fled the country, nearly seven hundred thousand of them through Hungary. In this time of war, essential supplies for food and other goods are scarce. The local residents not only need help themselves, but they also need to take care of the refugees who have settled there waiting for their chance to return home. Many of those who did not leave the country temporarily resettled to the Western part of the country, including Transcarpathia. The population of some of these villages – many of them ethnic Hungarian – essentially doubled.
The Kossuth Foundation so far has raised USD 5,000. We plan to continue our donation drive and food deliveries as long as we can and there is a need.
Thank you for your kind donations!
